We have noticed that in our last stream, the stats of viewers vs unique viewers that we are getting from the edgecast ftp (and processing them afterwards with Sawmill) are giving unexpected results, as they say the number of unique viewers is quite higher than that of the viewers, which doesn't really make sense.
This happened to us once or twice before, but now is when we have seen the biggest difference (something like 40k viewers and 60k uniques, when it should probably be the other way around).
Is this a known issue maybe?
This is the response we got from Edgecast Support: " " I processed aforementioned logs under sawmill demo 8.x and it does indeed show the results as you have described. I discussed the details of this processing with our engineering team. Unfortunately due to sawmill being a third party product it is not clear how it is counting the viewers, few thoughts were that it might be dropping the client IP as viewers which dont have any bandwidth reported or have minimal bandwidth reported against them. In addition when using Adobe Media server profile, or Macromedia flash media server profile in Sawmill it reports no data at all. Data only gets reported when limelight log profile is selected. At this time I cannot comment on differences between LL and EC logs formats. This discrepancy can be an issue of incorrect stats being reported in the processing of the logs. I recommend reaching out to Sawmill support for additional feedback. " "
