Introduction
Version 6.5 has been released by Flowerfire on 13th August 2003 for download. It contains major new features, bug fixes, and support for many new log file formats. Version 6.5 also contains a new ‘per configuration’ licensing system first introduced in v6.4.8 in tandem with the old ‘per user’ licenses. With the introduction of v6.5 ‘per configuration’ licensing became the only way to purchase Sawmill. Existing users wanting to update to v6.5 will need to convert to the new license. New Licensing System
With the introduction of v6.5 Sawmill changed from ‘per user’ licensing to ‘per configuration’ licensing. A configuration is a profile that describes a complete Sawmill report containing as many or as few tables and graphs you wish to be viewed. For example: you may want engineers and web designers to view every report, while a marketing person may only want to see the marketing oriented reports, and a manager may need to see just a small number of top-level reports as a business overview. In this scenario you would need 3 configurations. The new configuration manager allows total and easy scalability by simply adding new keys into the base product to enable the additional configurations. Keys are delivered by email for the additional amount and are input into the base copy to enable the additional configurations. Customers employing only one report format will find the new licensing system a great benefit, removing the user restriction and allowing unrestricted and unlimited distribution of reports
Updating to v6.5
Free Updates If you are entitled to a free update and you want to update contact your reseller and you will receive a new configuration key free of charge. You will be provided with 2 configuration keys for every 3 user licenses you have. You will of course need to provide proof of your entitlement.
Chargeable Updates If you are not entitled to a free update you will be charged a fee of 25% of the current price for the exchange number as defined above. For example, if you already have a 5 user license you will be charged 25% of the current price of a 3 configuration license.
Adding Configurations (Upgrading)
Purchase additional configurations at any time and Upgrade your copy of Sawmill whenever you need to, either when you are Updating to v6.5, or later. Remember that purchasing more configurations can be financially advantageous by taking you into a higher band (i.e. lower per configuration price) in a single upgrade operation.
