"Looking for awstats replacement"

   Having had our server hacked and taken off line for 5 days due to the awstats problem, we are now looking at a replacement.

Of course, we don't want to jump out of the pan and into the fire.

Is it possible in the future for Sawmill to come under a similar attack?

Also, I was not able to see the price for a server, rather than single user licence.

Please advise

There are no known issues or exploits in Sawmill. Unfortunately any webserver application can have vulnerabilities, though I can say that the security of Sawmill has been well thought through to avoid simliar exploits.

The only way to guarentee 100% security is to install Sawmill in loop-back mode meaning the IP is 127.0.0.1 and effectively this makes the install local to the machine only, and not network accessible.

As far as pricing, see our pricing page which describes licensing and pricing pretty in depth. There's no price difference between installing on a work station vs a server. If you are installing on multiple servers or multiple work stations you'd be looking at multiple licenses. There's also a chart to explain the differences between Sawmill Enterprise & Sawmill Professional, and an area that describes the notion of a profile.

   Profile = domain?

Eg, if my server as 100 domain, this is 100 profiles?

if my server has 1 domain + 100 subdomains this is 101 profiles?

A profile does not represent a "domain".

In the example you've provided and I'm assuming that all the log data is of the same log format e.g. Apache or IIS, you could create one profile and process all the log data into that one profile. Then by using report filters you could report on one subdomain, or filter in many ways to look at a subset of the whole data set.

Basically the real definition of a Profile within Sawmill is that a profile can only contain one type of log data format- meaning, if you have an Apache weblog and a Cisco pix firewall log file they each would need to be setup in distinct profiles, and this would mean you'd need at least a 2 profile Sawmill license.

   Ok...

I have about 15 domains and I have NetScaler (load balancer) which logs into seperate folders using the same format by domain name.

How many profiles would this require then?

They are are logged into seperate folders using the Common Log Format.

In general as long as the log format is consistent across all the domains, you can set sawmill up with multiple log sources for a particular profile and read all the data into one profile. The disadvantage when using the 1 profile relates to restricting users to accessing just their statistics. In the case where all the 15 domains are processed by the same profile each user would have access to all data/stats. If you want to limit access by users, then separating the log data into different profiles is the recommended method.
